Christian Formation Ministries

Children's Sunday School

The Sunday School program offers classes for children starting at age three, and is staffed by volunteer teachers under the supervision of our director of Christian Education. The program runs throughout the school year and includes seasonal offerings such as the Christmas pageant. The Primary elementary children experience Cokesbury's "Seasons of the Spirit" curriculum and Secondary elementary school age children use Sparkhouse's "re:form Foundation" curriculum.

Adult Forum and Bible Study

Most Sunday mornings during the school year an educational forum is held in Millen Hall for adults at 9:15 am. Topics for discussion vary from books of the Bible to giants of church history to current events and outreach ministries. Presenters include clergy, seminarians, and gifted lay teachers. Bible study is held on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm in the Narthex and on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 pm in the lower level conference room from September to May.

Children's Chapel

This mini-service for children is held Sundays during the 10:00 service. The children leave the sanctuary after the Gospel reading and gather in the Parish Hall for a lesson and prayers. They rejoin their parents in time for the Exchange of the Peace. If your child attends Children's Chapel, please sign up to lead or help at least once before Christmas and once after.

St. Francis Creche

Our weekday preschool program at St. Francis, for children two and a half to five years old, promotes Christian growth through participation in regular chapel services conducted by our Rector and Assistant Rector, with Bible stories, Christian music, and prayer. The Creche provides developmentally appropriate educational experiences to facilitate physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. A theme-based integrated curriculum using literature, art, and music fosters communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Parishioners are encouraged to volunteer in class, with special events, or by serving on the board of directors.

During regular Sunday services and other events requiring childcare, a paid attendant and parent volunteers provide care for young children and babies in a cheerful nursery setting. Parents of children using the nursery are needed to volunteer at least four Sundays during the year.
