How do I learn more about what is happening at St. Francis like ways to get involved, learning more about the Christian Faith or the Episcopal Church, and ways to serve this community?
St. Francis has a tradition of FORUMs on Sunday mornings. As would be implied by the name, FORUMs are topical in nature. In the past, in addition to teaching by the clergy, St. Francis has had representatives of our Outreach partners, such as Samaritan Ministry and Five Talents, representatives of community organizations, and Diocesan leaders.
For the year 2019/2020, the church will again offer topical FORUM's at 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM on Sunday Mornings. They will run for about forty-five minutes, and I encourage Franciscans to be there to learn about the work the church does and the wonderful associations in Great Falls, McLean, Reston, Vienna and our other close-by neighbors.
As a heads-up for September, the first four FORUMs will be on September 8, 15, 22, and 29. The topics will be Fellowship for the Fall, with Rob Kerns moderating along with representatives of Invite*Welcome*Connect; What did you think of the Eucharistic Prayer this summer, and how would you improve it? moderated by the Clergy; Samaritan Ministry and Labyrinth Walk, directed by the Outreach Committee and Kathy Anderson, respectively; and Invite*Welcome*Connect (IWC), next steps, moderated by the working group.
We are currently reaching out to parishioners to tell their stories, much like the FORUMs with Ruth McCully sharing her pilgrimage on the walk of St. James in Spain or the Swiacki family's work in teaching English in Poland. So, if you have a gift and/or a story to share, let Tracey and David know. The stories we tell and the work we do connects us to each other, to the work of God, and to the mission of St. Francis.
